Being a Female.

Though the day is about to end, still… Women’s day is what I’m going to write about today.

Our society has come a long way, in terms of gender equality. We all know how it used to be, and how it is. And it is really upsetting that we have still have to celebrate women’s day.

Even though equality is there in most of the sphere of life, still the orthodox thinking has plagued the minds of a lot of people. And I’m not saying this because I think women deserve ‘better’, but they deserve ‘equal’. Yes, the pay gaps, the responsibilities, the name-calling, the gender-role-expectations are a reminder that what we have achieved is good, but we’re far from our target.

I’d also like to mention that being a female isn’t easy, neither is being a male. Both the sexes, from a very young age, have to face a lot of problems and the females taking all the pain is just a misconception of some people. On the other hand, the harsh truth is that everybody thinks that they’re doing a great thing by treating females like things, like they have no feelings. You know what it is like to listen to people say ‘you’re acting like a girl’s or ‘its the girls who cry, not boys’. Dearest society, Barbie dolls are not the only toys made for girls, and racing cars are not made only for boys. Girls aren’t meant to stay home after night just because ‘the society is spoilt’. Sorry. We’re not something you can keep inside a cage. We don’t always want your attention. We’re not just about make-up and dresses. We’re about us. We’re about being smart, sensitive, independent and everything else a guy can be.

When a girl cry’s, she isn’t being an emotional and over-sensitive cry baby. When a girl is serious about something, she isn’t overreacting. Because she’s a female, it doesn’t give you the right to treat her any less. ‘EQUAL’ does not mean empowering one gender and slowly getting biased, it means same opportunity and treatment to all. And that is why it is sad that we have to celebrate women’s day every year.

Why should there be a day dedicated to her and not him? Why a day when we show how independent we actually are? Why can’t everyday be a women’s and men’s day? I’m desperately waiting for the day when we no more have to assign a day to celebrate the spirit of a woman.

Dear future generations, I promise that I’ll work to the best of my capabilities to make that day a reality, because I do not want the future to be like this, where she is the victim and he is the hero. I want the future to see that she is as much of a hero, as he is.

A New Year!

Hey guys!

New year’s just round the corner and we all are waiting for it, like we always do. It is the time when we go out, party, take out our phones and text everyone wishes for a new year. Haha.

A new year brings, not only a new calender with it, but also many other things. New opportunities, more chances, more days to add to our experiences. It is the time when we are to forget the sad times and gear up for the happy ones.

Even though 2016 was a year with a lot of bad days, the good ones outnumbered them. Always. The year taught me that it is good to pen down your thoughts to give them a shape and express them. It taught me that it is good to speak up and not suppress yourself. It taught me many more things, which I will always remember irrespective of the years that will come and go.

I hope that if you’ve read any of my past posts carefully, you surely get inspired to write down a bucket list, and make each of these upcoming 365 days extraordinary. I hope that 2017 be a year full of experiences which will stay with you forever. I hope that this year, you meet new people, make new friends, get into a new hobby, find something new about yourself and discover new places. It is my heartiest wish that you do something which you’ve never done.

Albus Dumbledore once said, ‘Happiness can be found even in the darkest of the times, If only one remembers to turn on the light.’ May you find happiness at all times and have a very happy, very exciting, new year!

Don’t forget to follow your resolution this year, though! 😀

Learning…or Mastering ?

Remember the time you performed exceptionally in the exams? I’m sure you do.

Now remember what you learnt, or I should say memorized, before that superb exam? I’m sure you don’t (At least 95%).

Today, we are living in a society where scoring is the only key to success. And what comes next, is forgetting everything which helped you score. We are living in a time where our report card defines who we are. But why? Why is each 14 year old’s report card based on the same assessment, when we are different individuals? THAT is a question, which needs to be answered.

What inspired me to write this post was a TED Talk by Sal Khan, the founder of Khan Academy. What he has highlighted in that Talk, is something which needs to be thought about.

Each of us have a set of skills which is distinct. Yet, we are made to study the same things at the same pace. Why? Because we are of the same age! The idea itself, is rather illogical, from my perspective. Learn what you are taught, give a test, get marks which tell you how well have you learnt and move on to the next topic. Where is that stage where we correct and ‘learn’ from our mistakes so that they aren’t repeated in the future?

The education system today, definitely teaches us vast things, but not mastery. It is purely based in how much we can memorize and how much of it can we retain till the test, after which we are going to forget each and every word of what we learnt. Now this isn’t going to get us anywhere, because we know a lot of things, remember a little less of them, but aren’t experts not even in one of them.

Instead of this traditional way of learning, why not a system where slowly, each student gets to master the concept and then move on to the next one and like this, grasp the concept so well that they can’t score less than 100%? In this age of development, we have the resources and the technology to develop the education system as well. So, why only learn, when you can master?

QOTD

And the last there ever will be.

So while going through the internet, I came across this beautiful quote. This quote isn’t only an empowering quote, but it is also a quote which motivates me. And that’s why it is ‘QOTD-Quote of the Day’.

To understand the depth of these words, it is essential to change one’s mind-set. Everyone can’t be the same; if they were, there would be nothing unique or extraordinary or even pleasant- everyone would be just the same, without any diversity. In that world, there would be no innovations, no inventions. God knows, we’d be living with the belief that the Earth is flat, or rather, the light bulb most probably wouldn’t have been invented! Harry Potter and Heroes of Olympus wouldn’t have been written, and trust me, people would quickly lose interest in life if amazing works like those didn’t exist.

Dear world, I know you have expectations but sorry, I can’t be the next Einstein or else I would’ve been doing research on something which nobody can think of even in their wildest dreams. I’m not the next Marie Curie, or the next Stephen Hawking or the next Edison or anyone else. These personalities are just beyond comparison; they are such that they can be worshipped for all that they have done for the humankind. The first Simone Biles, the first P.V Sindhu, the first Malala Yousafzai, the first Tajamul Islam are the ‘FIRSTS’ because they have accomplished which anybody else in the rest of the world hasn’t. Ask the name of that stranger walking down the road the next time you bump into them. They are also the first ____(whatever their name is). I also am, not the next of someone else, but the first of myself, and THAT is what makes me the happiest.

Bucket Lists and Dreams

untitled

So that’s the definition of a bucket list, in case you were wondering.

I’m sure each one of us has a certain number of “experiences” or “achievements” that we hope to accomplish during our lifetime. If you don’t have any, then either you are completely satisfied with your life, or you just can’t see beyond what is there in front of you. But that’s okay, my friend, you still have time to make a nice bucket list for yourself.

I am one of those kind of people who believe in endless possibilities. And trust me when I use the word ENDLESS. So, naturally, I have a very LONG bucket list. And it has all those things which I want to do in my lifetime, and everyday, there is something which I add onto that list. Now, don’t think that I have an actual list, in documented form- cause I don’t. I mean, one of the things I have on my bucket list is to write my bucket list down. Yeah, I know I’m supermoon-ish, but that’s just me.

Dreaming is like breathing, for me at least. It is important and I do it ALL THE TIME. I assure you I’m not from Mars, because it IS possible to dream all the time. And each time I think of something ‘extraordinary’, it becomes into something new, something which nobody else can think of in their wildest dreams. And that is why I like the whole concept of dreams; nobody else in the world can take them away from you. They are ENTIRELY yours.

A year gives you 365 opportunities (366, if it’s a leap year) to do what you haven’t done the (your age)x365 (or 366) days of your life. Why not do something new each day, at least 100 new days of your life? Why not try to give shape to those thoughts which have occupied your mind for ages? Only when you make one of your dreams come true, will you know that you are capable of something. Only when you check-off that one item off your bucket list, will you know that you can accomplish your dreams.

All those who say that dreaming is a waste of time, or it is just fictitious, are those people who are actually afraid. They are afraid to show themselves, not the world, that extraordinary things ARE possible. Why be afraid of dreaming, when you aren’t afraid of the reality? Being scared pushes you a hundred steps back from where you are. Know, that if it is in your mind, it is worth the risk.

In the end, follow your dreams. They know the way.
